Dementia Therapies in Taree

Dementia Caring provides locally run therapy programs in Taree, to support people at each stage of dementia. All of our evidence-based programs are fun and inspiring, and incorporate proven techniques that enhance quality of life for all. They are available as part of your in home dementia care service.

Music and Memories Therapy uses music to stimulate the mind and senses. We select music that is meaningful to participants, helping them engage with cherished memories.

Reminiscence Therapy uses soft music, photos, sight and sound to connect with memories that dwell in parts of the brain that are still functioning.

Storytelling therapy uses a visual diary, similar to a family photo album. It can also include letters, postcards, certificates and other memorabilia that reminds the individual of people or places they loved.

Sensory Therapy uses specialised techniques and incorporates Montessori products designed for people with dementia. Montessori childhood approaches can also be beneficial for people with dementia.

Validation Therapy recognises that rather than trying to bring the person with dementia to our reality, it is more positive and beneficial to enter their reality. This builds empathy, compassion and trust, and creates a sense of security.

What is dementia home care?

If you or a loved one is living with dementia, you may need extra help around the home so you can continue living independently. Sometimes, this may mean organising a professional carer to provide support, on top of the care you receive from family and friends.

The Australian Government offers in home dementia care to eligible people at a subsidised cost. This could include help with the housework, personal care services, help with taking medication, nursing services, meals and nutrition, or modifications to make your home easier to live in. It can also include respite care, so your family members and loved ones can take a break from their caring responsibilities.

How do I apply for dementia home care?

To apply for government-funded dementia home care, you can start by visiting the My Aged Care website or by calling 1800 200 422.
